America First Legal is calling out collusion between two leftist Big Tech titans that have used their companies to distort information and push a radical agenda.
In a Friday letter to Republican lawmakers, AFL President Gene Hamilton warned that a deal between Apple and artificial intelligence giant OpenAI posed a serious threat to competition and free speech for the millions of Americans who own iPhones. AFL wrote via X that the deal “forces a demonstrably left-wing biased AI onto America’s dominant smartphone platform,” while citing research showing ChatGPT’s pronounced leftist bias and highlighting the Federal Trade Commission’s response following an MRC Free Speech America Special Report on Apple News’s blatant suppression of right-of-center outlets in January.

MRC Free Speech America research confirms that Apple aggressively promotes leftist media outlets while suppressing virtually all right-leaning outlets on its widely used media outlet, Apple News.
Addressed to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the chairs of their respective chambers’ judiciary committees, the AFL letter called for an antitrust investigation into the years-long cooperation between Apple and OpenAI. It also blasts Apple for a deal integrating “ChatGPT directly into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, making it the exclusive AI chatbot accessible through Apple’s Siri voice assistant and other iPhone features.”
AFL’s letter highlighted the power of each company to show that OpenAI had locked in a threatening advantage, drawing attention to Apple’s 70% share of the American smartphone market and attributing 80% of the “U.S. generative AI chatbot market” to OpenAI. Both companies are “monopolists,” AFL wrote.

The letter went on to note that this deal empowered an obviously leftist AI chatbot, citing research on ChatGPT’s major leftist tilt and how speaking with biased chatbots shifts people’s political identities.
MRC Free Speech America VP Dan Schneider excoriated OpenAI for its history of anticompetitive deals that promote leftist bias. “We have repeatedly busted Sam Altman’s ChatGPT for its flagrantly politicized goals. ChatGPT colludes with elitist media to train on their content exclusively on left-wing content. Then the same leftist bias produced by The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and Vox gets delivered straight to ChatGPT’s users. Garbage in, garbage out. When Kamala Harris was the AI czar, she laid bare the left’s goals for just this kind of collusion.”
During a 2023 roundtable event, the then-vice president brazenly said the quiet part out loud, that AI can be used as a tool to determine people’s opinions. Harris said, “And so, the machine is taught—and part of the issue here is what information is going into the machine that will then determine … what then will be produced in terms of decisions and opinions.”
ChatGPT appears to have become a poster child for Harris’s approach. The OpenAI chatbot has signed numerous agreements to train on leftist media content, and surfaces biased answers citing many of the same leftist and elitist media sources. For example, in a response concerning an outrageous anti-free speech raid on the Paris headquarters of X, ChatGPT included sources such as Al Jazeera, The Associated Press and The Washington Post.
Numerous MRC studies have exposed how ChatGPT uses its technology to push a leftist agenda. Earlier this year, ChatGPT defended Democrats by refusing to find an embarrassing image of Democrats sitting during the 2026 State of the Union. In fact, the chatbot even went to bat for the Democrats, offering reasons why they might refuse to stand for the mother of a murdered woman.
During the 2025 government shutdown, ChatGPT blamed Republicans for refusing to pass “clean” funding legislation without adding demands. The chatbot completely ignored that it was Democrats, not Republicans, who held government funding hostage over demands like Obamacare subsidy extensions. In response to MRC questions, ChatGPT has even labeled President Donald Trump as the most antisemitic president since the early 90’s. In another disturbing answer, OpenAI’s chatbot denied that TPUSA Founder Charlie Kirk had been assassinated, writing, “no credible, factual reporting that a high-profile activist by that name [Charlie Kirk] was assassinated.”
