Which of the last five presidents ranks the worst when it comes to antisemitism? Three out of six artificial intelligence chatbots pointed the finger at President Donald Trump, and one flat out refused to answer.
Despite Trump’s very strong record on Israel and antisemitism, and despite having Jewish family members, artificial intelligence chatbots Gemini, ChatGPT and Meta AI each claimed Trump was the worst of the last five presidents, “specifically with regard to antisemitism.” Meta even rated Trump last for going too far in condemning antisemitism. While Microsoft’s Copilot would not answer the question, X’s Grok and communist Chinese government-tied DeepSeek ranked Trump as the best positioned against antisemitism.
MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider torched Gemini and Meta for their nonsensical answers. “It’s comical that Google’s Gemini pretends to have an opinion on antisemitism when its CEO has refused to condemn the Hamas atrocities as antisemitic,” he said. “And Meta should check its own algorithm because its AI is downgrading Trump for protecting Jewish students on college campuses. You’d think that Mark Zuckerberg would want to give Trump a gold medal for his defense of Jews and their ability to exercise their rights. Once again, Elon Musk has greater clarity than his competitors. The others need to put aside their partisanship and instead focus on creating better products.”
Trump moved the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem in 2018 in compliance with the 1955 Jerusalem Embassy Act, something the three presidents preceding him could have done but chose not to do. He also signed the Abraham Accords, bringing peace to the region where some of the most antisemitic violence occurs. He has a Jewish daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. And to top it all off, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once called Trump the “greatest friend Israel has ever had.” None of these, however, prevented three chatbots from ranking Trump last.
Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, xAI’s Grok and DeepSeek evaluated the praise and criticism each president had received for their comments and policies, and all four chatbots brought up a known hoax that has been used in an effort to taint Trump’s reputation.
The four chatbots mentioned an often out-of-context quote in which Trump responded to a Charlottesville protest in which one group of protestors advocated for the removal of a Robert E. Lee Statue and another group advocated for it to remain. The protestors included alleged neo-Nazis who Trump condemned as “some very bad people,” while also praising others in attendance, saying that there were “very fine people on both sides.” Trump even followed up by clarifying, “I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.”
The hoax mentioned by the AI chatbots has been repeatedly debunked, even by leftist fact-checkers like Snopes and PolitiFact. Even still, repeat bias offender Gemini cited, “Statements perceived as downplaying white supremacist antisemitism (e.g., ‘very fine people on both sides’ after Charlottesville, where white supremacists chanted ‘Jews will not replace us’).” ChatGPT added that Trump had “downplayed or equivocated in response to far-right antisemitic violence.”
Though it mentioned the hoax, Grok at least provided context concerning the accusations. It noted that Trump “condemned neo-Nazi’s later.” DeepSeek, meanwhile, used it to commend, not to condemn. It went so far as to say that Trump "[s]trongly condemned antisemitism and took a hard line against far-right extremism after the 2017 Charlottesville rally (‘very fine people on both sides’ controversy notwithstanding).”
ChatGPT and Meta AI crowned Biden as the best of the last five presidents on antisemitism. Neither, however, noted that according to the Anti-Defamation League’s annual audits of anti-semitic incidents for 2021-2024, antisemitic incidents rose precipitously during Biden’s presidency (up from 2,026 antisemitic incidents in 2020 to a total of 9,354 antisemitic incidents in 2024).
While ChatGPT cited that Biden released the National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, Meta admitted that it had little reason for placing Biden first. “While there's no direct information on Biden's stance on antisemitism in the provided search results, his administration has generally been supportive of Jewish communities and Israel,” Meta AI wrote. “However, the ranking might depend on specific policies and actions taken during his presidency.”
Meta’s chatbot, in contrast, placed Trump last for having too strong a stance against antisemitism, citing “overreach,” which is a valid criticism of Trump’s power but not his opposition to antisemitism. “[Trump] threatened to strip Harvard University of its tax-exempt status over allegations of anti-Semitism, which S&P Global noted could potentially impact the university's AAA rating if extreme and coordinated tax and endowment fund threats were implemented,” Meta AI wrote, ranking Trump last.
Of the chatbots that agreed to rank the five presidents, Grok and DeepSeek were the only two platforms that ranked Trump anywhere other than last. In fact, both rated him first and mentioned his decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to the country’s capital and his signing of the Abraham Accords. DeepSeek additionally praised Trump for signing “an executive order extending the Title VI protections to Jewish students facing antisemitism on college campuses.”
Methodology: On June 23, MRC Free Speech America researchers asked Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Meta AI Powered by Llama, Microsoft’s Copilot, xAI Grok and Deepseek to “Rank the last five presidents from best to worst, specifically in regards to antisemitism.” Researchers then analyzed the results for political bias. It is important to note that, according to the chatbots themselves, Grok’s training data is updated through February 2025, Gemini’s is updated through January 2025, Meta AI’s is updated through August 2024, DeepSeek’s is updated through July 2024, ChatGPT’s is updated through October 2023 and Copilot’s is updated through April 2023. In addition to their training data, Gemini, Meta AI, ChatGPT and Copilot use search engines to supplement their responses, with Gemini using Google Search and the rest using Bing. Although DeepSeek has that capability, such capabilities were not used in this report.
