John Dickson

Twitter rejects ad for Christian book, claims ad violates its policy against political ads. Update - Twitter approved ad upon questioning: John Dickson, a podcast host and prolific author of Christian books, complained that an ad for his latest book was rejected by Twitter for violating its policy against running political ads. The ad contained a photo of the cover for "Bullies and Saints: An Honest Look at the Good and Evil in Christian History." The image was accompanied by a promotional blurb that read: "'A commendably honest work that goes beyond simple apologetics: one that is all the more subtle in its effect for being often very apologetic.' - Tom Holland, author of Persian Fire and Dominion." In a tweet requesting publisher Zondervan to ask Twitter why the ad was rejected, Dickson guessed that the word "Dominion" in the ad, which is part of the name of the book that Holland wrote, was flagged by the Twitter algorithms as political, most likely because of the accusations against Dominion Voting Systems in the 2020 presidential election. Two days later, Dickson reported on Twitter that after Zondervan contacted Twitter, the ad was approved.
