Twitter Labels Obituary ‘Misleading’ Because of COVID-19 Claims
October 3rd, 2021
UPDATE: Twitter appears to have removed the "misleading" label.
Twitter users are slamming the platform after it labeled an obituary “misleading.”
“Jessica Berg Wilson, 37, of Seattle, Wash., passed away unexpectedly Sept. 7, 2021 from COVID-19 Vaccine-Induced Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (VITT) surrounded by her loving family,” the obituary, which was shared on Twitter, reads. “Jessica was an exceptionally healthy and vibrant 37-year-old young mother with no underlying health conditions.”
One user tweeted out the obituary, adding that “[s]he did not want to get vaccinated.”
The tweet was subsequently labeled as “misleading” with a Twitter warning about so-called COVID-19 “misinformation.”
Twitter users were floored.
“Who @Twitter decided it was okay to say an OBITUARY is "misleading"?” Ben Domenech, the founder of The Federalist, tweeted.
“When @jack eventually dies, any obit that doesn't include "created a pointless lie-filled hellsite that ruined the lives of millions" should be flagged as misleading, too,” he added, referring to Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter.
“Who is Twitter to say this is misleading? Did they contact the doctor?” another user asked.
