Tony Perkins

Facebook censors meme Tony Perkins post fact-checking ABC debate moderators on abortion: Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council (FRC), attempted to correct the presidential debate moderators from ABC after they fact-checked Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump about abortion during his second presidential debate. Perkins noted in a Facebook post that one of the moderators said "There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it's born." Perkins continued his post, explaining how the moderator was wrong, and included an FRC map showing which states have various levels of protection for babies born alive after a failed abortion, including fifteen states with no legal protections for babies in such a dangerous position. However, Facebook hid the map behind an interstitial that read "False information. Checked by independent fact-checkers." Users could click on the "See why" button, and then click on the "See post" button in order to actually see the map. While the interstitial has since been removed, the warning label declaring this "false information" remains, and it links to a PolitiFact article titled "No legal protections for 'born alive' babies in some states? Experts say that's wrong." Users are also forced to click to confirm that they wish to share Perkins' post if they attempt to use the Share button on his post after being reminded that the post contains "false information," and informing users that if they do choose to "share anyway," a notice will be added to their post as well.
