Facebook removes old meme, falsely claiming it promoted suicide: On Jan. 22, X user Uncle Milty’s Ghost responded to reports of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s free speech reforms, noting that he had recently had his Facebook account censored. “He’s got much more work to do," the user posted on X. "My personal Facebook account just got notified this morning that I’m locked down for 30 days because of a meme from ‘Blazing Saddles’ more than three years ago, claiming that it could cause people to harm themselves. Were they worried about Jesse Smollett?” The meme, shown in his screenshot, showed the comedy movie’s sheriff pointing a gun in the direction of his own head with the comment, “Rare photo of Jussie Smollett being attacked,” referring to the fact that a supposedly racist, anti-LGBTQ assault on Smollett turned out to have been a set up that he personally arranged. The screenshot showed Facebook claiming, “This photo may contain something that could cause others to harm themselves… This goes against our Community Standards on suicide, self-injury and eating disorders.”
