President Donald Trump tore up former President Joe Biden’s artificial intelligence (AI) policies during the first week of his presidency.

Trump signed an executive order “eliminating harmful Biden Administration AI policies and enhancing America’s global AI dominance,” on Jan. 23. In this announcement, the president committed to making sure that AI development is free “from ideological bias or engineered social agendas.”

Trump added, “With the right government policies, the United States can solidify its position as the leader in AI and secure a brighter future for all Americans.”

In addition, Trump revoked an AI executive order and told all “departments and agencies to revise or rescind all policies, directives, regulations, orders, and other actions taken under the Biden AI order that are inconsistent with enhancing America’s leadership in AI.”

While the Biden Administration took many concerning moves on AI, it truly showed its hand by issuing a fact sheet tying its AI policies to radical ideas like equity. The fact sheet lauded a radical executive order, titled “Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through The Federal Government,” which vanished like dust and ashes between Jan. 19 and Jan. 21

The Biden White House also conspired to use federal research dollars to nudge AI in their preferred political direction. The administration made this clear when it urged Americans to submit their recommendations on how the federal government could utilize AI on topics such as climate change, “equity” and the “information ecosystem.”

Major AI chatbots such as Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta AI are already biased in this direction. In February 2024, the Media Research Center (MRC) confirmed that Gemini made shockingly racist choices as an image generator. The AI chatbot repeatedly balked when asked for images of white people, while happily completing requests for Hispanic people, black people or Asian people.

The MRC also caught ChatGPT showing absurd favoritism towards Biden and his allies compared to its treatment of Trump. ChatGPT seemed to condemn incendiary political rhetoric if it was aimed at former Vice President Kamala Harris but took a more nuanced approach if such rhetoric targeted Trump. ChatGPT's bias was even more appalling as the questions were asked after Trump had narrowly escaped his first assassination attempt.

Finally, MRC researchers also busted Meta AI for defending censorship and displaying a strong bias against the pro-life cause. In an absurd answer to a question about crisis pregnancy centers, Meta AI went as far as recommending Planned Parenthood.
