Facebook flags Twitchy post disproving a fact-check: PolitiFact attempted to correct Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr who tweeted that second-time gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams supported moving the 2021 MLB Allstar game from Atlanta, GA to Denver, CO. MLB made the move after Georgia passed stricter voting laws. Twitchy wrote about the fact-check, pointing out that it appears that Abrams initially supported the move but later changed her stance because of how the move would impact lost business for Atlanta companies. PolitiFact cited a USA Today op-ed that Abrams wrote explaining her stance, and it even noted that the piece was "quietly updated" a few days after the outlet published it, but the fact-checker dismissed the differences. Twitchy, however, showed tweets that put the two versions side by side, revealing the apparent change in Abram's stance on the issue. Facebook flagged the Twitchy article for "missing context" and slapped the same phony fact-check that Twitchy disproved in the article. Fact-checked posts lose exposure on Facebook feeds as they are negatively affected by the platform's algorithm. According to Facebook, users fail to click through a fact-check interstitial to see the post 95% of the time.
