X community adds a context note to a TikTok Policy post: The TikTok Policy account posted a statement about some pending legislation, saying "Our statement on the latest TikTok legislation: This bill is an outright ban of TikTok, no matter how much the authors try to disguise it. This legislation will trample the First Amendment rights of 170 million Americans and deprive 5 million small businesses of a platform they rely on to grow and create jobs." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. The bill bans apps that are controlled by a foreign adversary. Any app (including TikTok) that chooses to sever ties with entities subject to the control of a foreign adversary will no longer be impacted by the bill." The note cited a press release from The House Select Committee On the CCP. The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later. The label was later removed from the post.
