#StopTheSteal

Twitter marks URL for Jan. 6 #StopTheSteal protest as 'unsafe': The #StopTheSteal movement has organized another protest in the nation's capital for Jan. 6. Part of that process includes setting up a website with directions and instructions about the day's events. One of the movement's leaders noticed that when shared on Twitter, and then clicked on by users, the link produces a warning from Twitter indicating the URL may be unsafe. "The link you are trying to access has been identified by Twitter or our partners as being potentially spammy or unsafe, in accordance with Twitter's URL policy," the warning page stated. It added that the link may fall under any of four categories listed by Twitter: "[M]alicious links that could steal personal information or harm electronic devices, spammy links that mislead people or disrupt their experience, violent or misleading content that could lead to real-world harm, or certain categories of content that, if posted directly on Twitter, are a violation of the Twitter Rules." The unsafe link warning prompts users to return to Twitter, while providing a hyperlink in fine print at the bottom of the page allowing users to click-through to the protest's website.
