X community adds a context note to Thomas Massie post: Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) posted "CNN anchor in 2017, pushing a (now proven) false narrative that the leader of Syria was attacking his own citizens with gas. The media and deep state were trying to motivate the US to overthrow Bashar al-Assad and/or engage in other acts of war with Syria:" The post included a video clip of Massie on CNN discussing this issue. The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. An OPCW Investigation and Identification Team acting on behalf of the United Nations concluded that units of the Syrian Arab Air Force used chemical weapons in Syria in 2017. opcw.org/media-centre/n…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
