X community adds a context note to Ayanna Pressley post: Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) posted a response to an NBC News post that read "BREAKING: The U.S. and British militaries have launched strikes against targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, U.S. officials say." Pressley's response read: "Unacceptable. @POTUS must get approval from Congress before authorizing military strikes in Yemen or any other country. The people do not want more endless wars." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Inaccurate. According to U.S. Code § 1543, the President has 48 hours to submit a report to the House and Senate setting forth reasons for military action. Further, the strike was against Houthi rebel sites in Yemen. Houthis have been at war with Yemen since 2014. britannica.com/topic/Houthi-m… law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/50… whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/… npr.org/2024/01/10/122…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system.
