X community adds a context note to Nikki Haley post: Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley's official X account posted, “I have always supported separate bathrooms for biological boys and girls. As for Ron DeSantis... he needs to explain why he's throwing mud when he wanted to stay out of the 'bathroom wars' in 2018.” The post then linked to a New York Post article headlined "Ron DeSantis downplays 'bathroom wars' in resurfaced clip ahead of GOP debate." The X community added a note to the post that read, in part: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. While she was Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley opposed the bill to keep biological males out of women's restrooms -- saying it was not needed...." The note was later removed. The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will now be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
