X community adds a context note to Nikki Haley post: Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley's official X account posted, “Ron talks about protecting free speech, but he tried to ban anonymous speech in the press when he was governor.” The post then linked to a Miami Herald article headlined "Before panning Haley's social media proposal, DeSantis pushed to curb anonymous sources." The X community added a note to the post that read, in part: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. This is false. DeSantis did not try to ban anonymous free speech. Senator Jason Brodeur filed legislation (SB...)." The note was later removed. The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will now be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
