Google's Blogger shut down a long-running Catholic blog for nearly two weeks: Google's blogging platform, Blogger, shut down the Italian language blog Messa in Latino (Mass in Latin), which discusses various Catholic devotions and news in the Church. According to Messa in Latino, Google had hosted the blog since 2008 before the tech giant disabled it on July 11, allegedly because the blog’s content “violated our Hate Speech policy,” according to a screenshot posted on the blog after it was restored on July 23. "Your blog titled 'MiL - Messainlatino.it' was flagged to us for review. We have determined that it violates our guidelines and have made the URL... unavailable to blog readers," the screenshot additionally read. Google did not respond to MRC Free Speech America's requests for comment. Reclaim The Net included a second screenshot confirming that the users who attempted to view the blog were met with a page that read "This blog has been removed." Although it is unclear exactly what content caused the censorship, in the July 23 blog post announcing Messa In Latino's return to the platform, the author took a guess as to the reason and doubled down on his commitment to unapologetically write about Catholic teaching on gay marriage and abortion. "Crime, felony, murder, and anyone who aborts or causes an abortion is a murderer, a criminal, and a delinquent and deserves the expected automatic excommunication and risks burning in hell. Is that enough hate speech for you?" the post reads, according to Google Translate.
