X community adds a context note to a David Leavitt post: Journalist David Leavitt posted "A #CyberAttack on #SuperTuesday is a direct attack on democracy They are trying to prevent us from reminding everyone to vote with targeting popular services like FB & IG #facebookdown." The post included a screenshot from Downdetector ostensibly showing not only the Meta-owned platforms being down, but also a number of other sites including Google, X, YouTube, Honeywell, Microsoft Teams, and more. The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Meta has confirmed that it was just a technical issue and has resolved it. The other platforms were not affected. cnn.com/2024/03/05/tec…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
