Byline TV

X community adds a context note to Byline TV post:  Media outlet Byline TV posted a short clip from an interview with India Willoughby in which the transgender-identifying person claimed that J.K. Rowling had misgendered Willoughby and as a result, Willoughby had reporter Rowling to the police. The media outlet added to the post, "EXCLUSIVE @IndiaWilloughby has called the policy and reported @jk_rowling for an alleged hate crime for misgendering" Willoughby. The comment concluded, saying "This could lead to Rowling's arrest." X added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know." The added context read, "IW claims misgendering's a hate crime because gender's a protected characteristic under the GRA & EA. However, the protections provided are against discrimination not biology. The case of Maya Forstater confirmed people have a right to hold & express gender critical views. warnergoodman.co.uk/site/blog/news… warnergoodman.co.uk/site/blog/news…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted to explain that notices will now be pushed to users that previously engaged with a post about any Community Notes added to it after the engagement.

Byline TV responded critically to the Community Note, saying "The community notes on our interview with @IndiaWilloughby about @jk_rowling are deeply transphobic and prove that things have gone totally downhill on this site since @elonmusk took over. Dumpster fire." Rowling in turn responded to this, concluding that "This is nonsense. 99.9% of the world knows it's nonsense."
