X community adds a context note to an ATF post: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) posted "Today, we remember and honor the lives and service of ATF Special Agents Conway LeBleu, Todd McKeehan, Robert Williams, and Steven Willis, who were killed 31 years ago while attempting to execute warrants at the Branch Davidian compound. http://atf.gov/our-history/remembering-waco #LODD #EOW #ATF." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. It should also be noted that the ATF burned or shot all members of the compound save for 9. The outcome of this siege was most likely unnecessary as Koresh was likely planning to surrender according to FBI analysts and every attempt at cooperation was shut down." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later. The note was later removed.
