Aarti Tikoo

Twitter locks the account of journalist Aarti Tikoo: Tikoo tweeted, “My brother @TikooSahil_ who lives in Srinagar, is being openly threatened by jihadi terrorists sitting in Kashmir-India, and their handlers in Pakistan, UK and US. Is anyone watching? Are we sitting ducks waiting to be shot dead by Islamists or will you crackdown on them?” Twitter locked her account. According to images of Tikoo’s account, she received a message from Twitter, instructing her to delete the tweet in order to unlock her account. The Twitter warning said that the post was flagged for “violating rules of hateful conduct.” The warning continued, “You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, or gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease.” The warning is based on Twitter’s hateful conduct policy. Tikoo did say that Jihadi terrorists were sending her brother death-threats, but she does not seem to be promoting violence. Moreover, Twitter did not specify whom Tikoo allegedly was promoting violence against or whom she was harassing. At the time of writing, her account appears to be restored.
