The Biden re-election campaign joined former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social. Given Biden’s notorious anti-free speech record, the announcement may come as a shock to some. However, the campaign admitted the purpose of the move was to fight what they deemed to be fake news. A Biden spokesperson claimed that Biden campaign plans to meet “voters where they are” and preach about the so-called threat of “mis and disinformation.”

The unnamed spokesperson detailed the administration’s goal in an interview with Fox News. "‘There’s very little ‘truth’ happening on TruthSocial, but at least now it’ll be a little fun,’" the individual said. “‘We will be leveraging the fact that Republicans can sometimes be our best messengers!” The Biden campaign account — housed under the handle @BidenHQ — has since posted cable news clips and anti-Trump soundbites.

Truth Social is among those platforms Biden is now targeting to fight the leftist bogeymen of so-called “mis and disinformation.”

According to Politico, the Biden campaign promised last September to increase its plan to shield the president amid never-ending scandals. “‘The campaign is going to have to be more aggressive pushing back on misinformation from a communications perspective and filling some of the gaps these companies are leaving behind,’” claimed Rob Flaherty, deputy campaign manager for the Biden 2024 campaign.

The Biden White House has been credibly accused of seeking to and effectively coercing Big Tech platforms to censor constitutionally protected speech online. In a landmark case, Missouri v. Biden, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals found that the White House — along with  the Surgeon General, the FBI and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention —  likely violated the First Amendment, and thus upheld an earlier injunction barring the federal agencies from further communication with Big Tech agencies.

In July 2021, then-White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki admitted that Biden officials were “in regular touch with these social media platforms'' and flagged “problematic posts” with the goal of having them censored.

In response to the Biden campaign joining Truth Social, a platform representative told Fox News it was remaining true to its pro-free speech pledge: “‘[Truth Social] welcomes anyone around the world to join.’” Similarly, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung reacted to Biden’s announcement with praise for the platform’s pro-free speech stance.

"‘Crooked Joe Biden and his team are finally acknowledging that Truth Social is hot as a pistol and the only place where real news happens,’" Cheung told Fox News. "‘Unfortunately for Biden, his continuation of spreading misinformation to gaslight the American people in order to distract from his disastrous record won’t work and they’ll be ratioed to oblivion.’"
