MRC Free Speech Vice President Dan Schneider poured cold water on the left’s selective interest in free speech and highlighted outrageous censorship uncovered by MRC Free Speech America.
On the April 12 edition of Saturday Agenda with Newsmax host Rob Astorino, Schneider blasted the left for its incessant whining on behalf of the Associated Press (AP) now that President Donald Trump has limited the outlet’s access to the White House. He pointed to the fact that there were real and disturbing free speech abuses under the previous administration. “[T]he Biden administration crashed and cratered our constitution,” Schneider said, referring to the MRC’s recent report detailing 57 different censorship initiatives. He continued noting that “At least [Trump is] trying to reverse those” Biden era initiatives.
The report Schneider referenced exposed no less than 57 different initiatives of the Biden administration that enacted censorship, many of which stemmed from the Department of Justice and the State Department. These initiatives involved 90 different government agencies in efforts that included funding pro-censorship groups to target so-called misinformation or disinformation. These efforts also included prodding foreign governments to trample the free speech of their citizens and creating partnerships with anti-free speech companies and foreign entities.
Notably, the Big Three legacy media networks, ABC, NBC and CBS, ignored this MRC exposé in their evening programming when it came out on March 13.
Similarly, a search for “censorship” on the AP site brings up only two articles since MRC Free Speech exposed the Biden administration, but the articles instead address free speech concerns in Haiti and Albania.
During the interview, Schneider also commented on the AP’s ban from the Oval Office, pointing out that the media was exaggerating President Donald Trump’s action against the powerful wire service. He noted that both the Obama administration and the Biden administration excluded many outlets that now have White House access.
Astorino responded to Schneider’s analysis of why the AP may or may not have a case by saying, “To me it seems like the AP is just whining.”
Schneider went on to explain the AP’s negative influence, “The AP of all media outlets is probably the very worst because it controls the style guide, which tries to dictate how all of you journalists communicate, and of course, in recent years, they’ve just gone crazy with woke stuff.” In fact, the AP Style Guide has been busted pushing favorable euphemisms on behalf of the abortion lobby and the pro transgenderism lobby. For example, AP recommends substituting “gender-affirming care” or “gender-confirmation procedures” for chemical castration and genital mutilation. At the same time, the AP discouraged journalists from referring to pro-lifers by their chosen name.
