Morning Joe is at war with social media. Hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough attacked Facebook and Twitter. They slammed the companies for not having taken action against President Donald Trump sooner to prevent what Brzezinski called “some sort of insurrection at the Capitol.” “Those riots would not have happened, but for Twitter, but for Facebook,” said Scarborough.

Brzezinski quickly followed by demanding one of the world’s largest social networks be shut down completely. She launched an enraged diatribe at Facebook leadership, suggesting: "No, you have just shown [President-elect Joe Biden] why you need to be shut down. You need to be shut down. Nobody needs what you have to offer. You have destroyed this country and quite frankly, it's still happening right now." Brzezinski was reacting to a recent study claiming that after Trump’s suspension there was a so-called “massive decrease of misinformation,” RawStory reported.

Yahoo! News summarized Zignal Labs’s alleged findings in that:

“conversations about election fraud fell from 2.5 million mentions to 688,000 across several social media sites. The research house looked at conversations that spanned fraud, hacked machines, tampered ballots, and other conspiracies.

“The data indicates that tech platforms' ability to restrict the spread falsehoods is an effective approach to containing misinformation online.”

Essentially, all skepticism over an unprecedented election which occurred during a pandemic is considered to be dangerous misinformation.

Brzezinski considered this mass censorship a proof of concept that had come far too late for her liking:

“You have shown how it drops the minute you actually take action. You have shown that you should have done this a long time ago and perhaps there wouldn't be people dead, perhaps there wouldn't be people following false scientific information about the coronavirus."

Scarborough blasted the “monopoly” of Facebook and said it should be broken into “a million little pieces.” He claimed their “business models” led “to the insurrection against the United States of America.”
