Harvard Law School Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz has weighed in to defend Elon Musk’s criticisms of George Soros and offered a few scathing remarks of his own.
Dershowitz published a May 21 op-ed in The Wall Street Journal pushing back against leftist media hacks who have called Musk’s tweets on Soros “antisemitic.” Dershowitz wrote, “But Mr. Musk stands falsely accused. Mr. Soros is an active participant in politics, and his Jewishness shouldn’t shield him from criticism.” Following these remarks, Dershowitz went into detail on how George Soros has acted to harm not only America, but also the Jewish state of Israel. “[N]o single person has done more to damage Israel’s standing in the world, especially among so-called progressives, than George Soros,” Dershowitz rebuked.
Dershowitz lists two anti-Israel groups, Human Rights Watch and J-Street, which Soros has donated massive amounts of money to in the past. In the article, Dershowitz mentioned that Soros gave $100 Million to Human Rights Watch in 2010. Soros clearly kept that gravy train going by donating another $3 million to HRW in 2021, according to Open Society Foundations records. Soros also gave $1,525,000 to J Street since 2017.
As Dershowitz noted, HRW in particular is notoriously hostile against Israel. The group allegedly attacked Israel so viciously that the group alienated its own founder, Robert Bernstein, who said of the group he founded:
“‘As the founder of Human Rights Watch, its active chairman for 20 years and now founding chairman emeritus, I must do something that I never anticipated: I must publicly join the group’s critics. Human Rights Watch had as its original mission to pry open closed societies, advocate basic freedoms and support dissenters. But recently it has been issuing reports on the Israeli-Arab conflict that are helping those who wish to turn Israel into a pariah state,” Bernstein concluded in his stunning rebuke.
J-Street was founded to counter the work of the pro-Israel group, AIPAC. J-Street has also undermined the Birthright Israel Foundation, which funds trips to help Jewish people visit Israel, according to Influence Watch. David Weinberg, founding Vice President of Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, said in 2018 that J-Street “spends almost all its time and money besmirching Israel, smearing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and other leading American Jewish organizations, boosting US-Iran relations, and backing political candidates for whom promoting the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement is a badge of honor.”
Dershowitz also quoted an article from the Jewish News Service to emphasize that he wasn’t the only “Jewish American” to be wary of Soros’ radicalism:
“I’m not the only Jewish American to criticize Mr. Soros. In an article for the Jewish News Service, Farley Weiss, a former president of the National Council of Young Israel, wrote: ‘Soros’s defenders try to shut down criticism of the billionaire by claiming it is antisemitic because Soros himself is Jewish. But no one has financed more destructive attacks on Israel and the American Jewish community than Soros.’”
The Harvard Law professor also agreed that Soros has had “a pernicious influence” on America, citing leftist Soros-backed candidates for district attorney across the country. Dershowitz also stated that he agrees with Musk that, “Mr. Soros’s acts contribute to fraying the ‘fabric of civilization.’” Ideally, America would have a media that would be curious about the magnitude of Soros’ influence in global politics. Instead, the nation is left with a bloated, Soros-funded propaganda media mill that is intent on nefariously denigrating those who dare to criticize him.
