Arianna Huffington, who in 2010 said Americans were voting republican with their “lizard brains,” announced on Aug 11 that she would step down as Editor-in-Chief at her left-wing website.
Huffington Post started in 2005, and branded itself as an outlet that avoided “the usual flame-throwing, name-calling, and simplistic attack dog rhetoric.” Yet, something apparently changed because the site soon published a series a vile attacks on the Bush administration. The extreme, anti-conservative content has continued ever since.
In honor of Huffington leaving the Huffington Post, MRC compiled a list of the times when HuffPo especially showed its crazy side under her leadership.
1. Bush Press Secretary Tony Snow Deserved His Cancer: Yes, really. That was the thought in the back of a HuffPo blogger’s head in 2007. A post by Charles Karel Bouley asked “I hear about Tony Snow and say to myself, well, stand up every day, lie to the American people at the behest of your dictator-esque boss and well, how could a cancer NOT grow in you?”
“In the back of my head there’s Justin Timberlake’s ‘What goes around, goes around, comes around, comes all the way back around, ya,’” Bouley added.
2. Celebrate Mother’s Day by Affirming Abortion Rights: On the day intended to honor a mother’s bond with her child, HuffPo affirmed on May 6, 2015, violently ending that relationship. In an especially repulsive argument, blogger Kristine Holmgren claimed abortion was a “birthright.” Holmgren urged readers to renew a promise on Mother’s Day to rid mothers of the anger that comes from having an “unwanted” child.
In keeping with the spirit of Mother’s Day, Holmgren told readers that if they “were born before women had access to safe, affordable, accessible abortion,” they likely had an “angry mother.”
3. Violence in Response to Trump Is “Logical.” “In the face of media, politicians, and GOP primary voters normalizing Trump as a presidential candidate — whatever your personal beliefs regarding violent resistance — there’s an inherent value in forestalling Trump’s normalization,” blogger Jesse Benn wrote on June 6, 2016.
4. Dick Cheney Was a “Terrorist.” Left-wing actor Alec Baldwin made this claim in a 2006 post, in which he said that former Vice President Dick Cheney “terrorizes our enemies abroad and innocent citizens here at home indiscriminately.”
5. Religious Freedom Law Was a “Weapon of Mass Destruction.” Apparently, a law protecting the faithful from violating their faith was comparable to nuclear weapons? HuffPo blogger Susan Russell suggested that was the case in March of 2015.
Before Russell denounced the Indiana law, which allowed people of faith to deny service to same-sex couples, she said “perversion of religion into a weapon of mass destruction is antithetical to the core beliefs of all the world’s great religions.”
6. Guns Are a Greater Threat Than ISIS. HuffPo politics editor Sam Stein suggested that was the case in 2015 when he asked Sen. Lindsey Graham why guns were not a greater “existential threat” than ISIS.
7. Jesus Was The First Transgender Man. Religious conservatives have been wrong for centuries. The seminal figure in Christianity was actually the type of man/woman who “would have to swap restrooms” according to HuffPo writer Suzanne DeWitt Hall.
8. Cheating Can Save Your Marriage. HuffPo published a blog in 2012 which said, “How Women’s Infidelities Can Save Marriages.” Blogger Susan Shapiro Barash, who said she had been researching female infidelity for years, commented that it was “striking” how women used their affairs “to better understand themselves and their marriages.”
Barash claimed to have spoken with women who said affairs helped them “find their happiness.” “This group of wives who remain with their husbands feels more in touch with their desires in this extra curricular relationship than in their marriages and they no longer feel that life is passing them by,” Barash wrote.
9. Failure to Impeach Bush Creates a “Cum-Stain” on The American Flag. Before actor Sean Penn received an award in 2006, HuffPo published his prepared remarks, in which he compared president George W. Bush’s failures to Bill Clinton having sex in the oval office.
“If we attempt to impeach for lying about a blowjob, yet accept these almost certain abuses without challenge, we become a cum-stain on the flag we wave,” the speech text read.
10. Bush Worse Than Hitler Because of His Intentions. Somehow a blog that said, “You could argue that even the world’s worst fascist dictators at least meant well,” made it onto HuffPo. Blogger Peter Mehlman said that before making the case that Bush was worse than other fascist dictators.
While other fascist leaders worked toward “eliminating jews” and “suppressing blacks” were well-intended, Bush was apparently not. “Bush set a new precedent. He came into office with the attitude of ‘I’m so tired of the public good,’” Mehlman wrote.
