The midterm elections are three weeks out and The New York Times is screeching at Democrats for not touting President Joe Biden’s inflationary record of printing $1.9 trillion in government handouts.

Joe Biden “Democrats spent $2 trillion to save the economy,” but “they don’t want to talk about it,” New York Times reporter Jim Tankersley whined in an Oct. 16 story on Biden’s “2021 economic rescue bill.” Tankersley continued to propagandize: “Liberal activists are particularly troubled that Democratic candidates are not focusing more on the payments to families.”

The reason they’re not talking about Biden’s handouts? According to Tankersley, Democrats aren’t talking about the huge bill simply because Republicans complain about inflation too much.

“In part,” Tankersley claimed, Democrats don’t talk about Biden’s gargantuan $1.9 trillion “American Rescue Plan because the rescue plan has become fodder for Republicans to attack Democrats over rapidly rising prices, accusing them of overstimulating the economy with too much cash.” [Emphasis added.]

If the left is being accused of “overstimulating the economy with too much cash,” it might be for good reason, even according to Tankersley’s employer, The New York Times. As Tankersley conceded in his Oct. 16 piece, Biden’s stimulus aggravated inflation: “Economists generally agree that the stimulus spending contributed to accelerating inflation, though they disagree on how much.” [Emphasis added].

Moreover, one of former President Barack Obama’s top economists criticized Biden’s stimulus package for worsening inflation. MSNBC economic analyst and Willett Advisors LLC CEO Steven Rattner slammed Biden’s “American Rescue Plan” as the “original sin” of inflation in a November 2021 New York Times op-ed headlined, “I warned the Democrats about inflation.”

But economists’ warnings on inflation didn’t stop The New York Times from claiming that Democrats were “confident that they had solved an economic policy dilemma” because they “were giving Americans money,” but “voters weren’t giving them any credit.”

In May 2021, Biden signed the “American Rescue Plan” into law, adding another $1.9 trillion in fuel to the inflationary fire gripping America. Tankersley, of course, argued that the law was “initially seen as Mr. Biden’s signature economic policy achievement.” Democrats, in turn, hoped that they would be “rewarded politically” for the stimulus checks.

Fast-forward to roughly one year later, and Americans are still suffering under the highest inflation in 40 years. Even the leftists at PBS reported that eggs cost 40 percent more year-over-year, butter costs 30 percent more, and coffee is roughly 20 percent more expensive than last year.

Voters don’t seem to have fallen for the attempt at political bribery, as two recent polls reveal. A Harvard/Harris poll revealed that “inflation” is the most important issue for 37 percent of Americans, leading all other categories. And a New York Times/Siena poll found that Republicans are gaining an “edge” over Democrats as voters worry about the economy.
