The Trump White House is doing the very thing that the Biden administration forbade Americans from doing: telling the truth about COVID-19.
Trump has once again demonstrated his commitment to undoing the Biden administration’s censorship designs for America. The most recent example is the White House’s new landing page (COVID.gov) detailing the likely origins of COVID-19 and calling out the failures of the federal government, the World Health Organization and others. Quoting a House Oversight Committee report, the White House stated, “the Biden Administration resorted to ‘outright censorship—coercing and colluding with the world’s largest social media companies to censor all COVID-19-related dissent.’”
COVID.gov is just the latest example, but Trump hit the ground running with his week one executive orders ending government-orchestrated censorship and encouraging the development of artificial intelligence that is “free from ideological bias or engineered social agendas.”
MRC Vice President Dan Schneider highlighted just how much of a welcome change Tump’s free speech policies are: “You could hardly come up with a starker contrast between what Biden illegally did to undermine the First Amendment by censoring and silencing Americans and what Trump is now doing as one of the greatest advocates for free speech.”
Indeed, censorship was a defining feature of President Joe Biden’s tenure in office. The Media Research Center detailed how 93 agencies of the Biden administration worked, sometimes in tandem with private entities, to censor Americans. MRC’s exclusive CensorTrack database has also recorded over 1,300 cases of Big Tech companies censoring information related to COVID-19 beginning at the start of the pandemic and continuing through as recently as March 20, 2025.
From X/Twitter to YouTube, Meta, Amazon, LinkedIn and others, Big Tech platforms silenced no fewer than 45 individual doctors and medical researchers, many of whom were censored multiple times for sharing their discoveries and clinical experiences.

For months, users could not utter the words “ivermectin” or “hydroxychloroquine” on Twitter and YouTube. And Meta, ferociously fact-checked posts that could potentially lead to “vaccine hesitancy,” something Americans now know was at least in part at the behest of the Biden administration.
The Biden administration’s ability to sway Big Tech companies by using the full weight of federal power, has become abundantly clear since the release of The Twitter Files, the Facebook Files, the Murthy v. Missouri lawsuit, which cited MRC, and an MRC study exposing 57 Biden administration censorship initiatives.
As the Trump White House described, the censorship had a devastating impact. During the pandemic, “[p]rolonged lockdowns caused immeasurable harm to not only the American economy, but also to the mental and physical health of Americans,” the Trump administration wrote.
But censorship does not merely deprive people of their voice. It can also be used to interfere in elections. During the concurrent 2020 election, the same censorship oligarchs that strove to hide the truth about COVID-19 buried the New York Post’s explosive exposé detailing the Hunter Biden laptop scandal.
A 2020 MRC poll found that 45 percent of Biden voters were unaware of the New York Post’s story. Had these Americans been fully aware of it, 9.4 percent of Biden voters would have abandoned him, flipping all six of the swing states he won to former President Donald Trump.
