Twitter community adds a context note to Vivek Ramaswamy tweet: Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's official Twitter account tweeted, “.@RonDeSantis signed a hate speech bill earlier this year at his donors’ request. I respectfully disagree: the right answer to bad speech isn’t less speech. It’s more speech. That’s the American way.” Twitter added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read "HB 269 does not prohibit ‘hate’ speech per se. It prohibits “willfully & maliciously harassing, threatening, or intimidating another person” based on their religion, and certain actions done “for the purpose of threatening or intimidating” a resident on their private property. " The context note also included a link to the text of the bill to support the note. The label is part of Twitter’s Community Notes system. Twitter users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to tweets.
