X Community Notes censors archeological post with irrelevant and deceptive information: The state of Israel posted a photo of a coin on X Dec. 16 explaining, “An extraordinary discovery in Jerusalem 🕎✨A rare 1,300-year-old pendant, stamped with the symbol of the seven-branched menorah, unearthed in a major Israel Antiquities Authority excavation near the Temple Mount, testifies to the presence of Jewish life during the Byzantine period in Jerusalem. Another testimony that Jewish presence endured throughout centuries. 🇮🇱 @AntiquitiesIL”. Community Notes imposed a fact checking note linking to biased Britannica and saying, “1300 years ago Jerusalem was ruled by the Ummayad caliphate. Caliph Hisham bin abdl Malik ruled it from Damascus.” This note was irrelevant firstly because who was ruling Jerusalem does not in any way disprove Jewish presence there — in fact multiple religions, including Christianity, were represented in Jerusalem at the time. Secondly, the Muslim caliphate was ruling Jerusalem because the Muslims invaded and conquered the Judeo-Christian city after Islam’s 7th century invention.
