Facebook removes campaign video from ultra-orthodox party in Israel that is critical of liberal Jewish denominations: Facebook has removed a campaign video from United Torah Judaism (UTJ), known as one of the ultra-orthodox Haredi parties. The video was in response to a High Court ruling in Israel that recognizes individuals who converted to Judaism through reforms, or conservative conversions in Israel, as Jews. Facebook reportedly removed the video because it made an "anti-Semitic comparison." The video opens with an old news story about the "Bark Mitzvah" phenomenon, which is a new practice in which members of more liberal Jewish denominations hold bar mitzvah ceremonies for their pet animals, mainly dogs. The video continues with a narrator speaking over a series of of photos in which dogs are wearing traditional Jewish garb. The narrator, and the video as a whole, seeks to imply that the Reform movement’s standards are so lax that it would convert dogs to Judaism. The video then concludes with a message from the UTJ Party, saying they “will protect your Judaism, that of your children, and your grandchildren.”
