Twitter community adds a context note to Trump War Room tweet: Trump War Room, an official account for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, tweeted, “Ron DeSantis kept businesses closed until SEPTEMBER 2020!” The tweet included a CNN headline reading "Florida governor signs order clearing restaurants and bars to fully open" from September 25, 2020. Twitter added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context currently reads "Florida started to reopen business on May 4th 2020" with a link to a CNN tracker that showed the re-opening status for each state. A screenshot tweeted by DeSantis Rapid Response Director Christina Pushaw showed that the context note previously read “The tweet infers that until September 2020 Bars and Restaurants were closed. Closed is defined as not open or having ceased trading. Bars and Restaurants initially opened May 4. In September 2020 they were opened to full capacity.” This note included links to articles explaining these stages of re-opening. The label is part of Twitter’s Community Notes system. Twitter users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to tweets.
