Twitter community adds a context note to Trump War Room tweet: Trump War Room, an official account for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, tweeted, “Lockdown Ron DeSantis shut Florida down during the pandemic, much more so than other states. Now he’s trying to gaslight the American people into thinking otherwise. He’s a liar and a fraud who can’t be trusted.” The tweet included a video of an attack ad making the same claims. Twitter added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read "Trump praised DeSantis' leadership in reopening FL" with a link to a New York Post article discussing a supercut video of Trump praising DeSantis. The context label continued, adding "FL reopened in 3 phases 1: Limited reopening of businesses & healthcare 2: Further eased restrictions 3: Full operations for most establishments, removing local mandates." It included a link to a U.S. State Department notice on the reopening of Florida, and a link to Florida's Plan For Recovery. The label is part of Twitter’s Community Notes system. Twitter users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to tweets.
