X community adds a context note to Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) post: The X account for Rep. Tony Gonzales posted "Brandon Herrera thinks veteran suicide is a joke. He has no business representing #TX23 in Congress." The post included an image depicting a newspaper headline reading "Congressional Candidate Mocks Veteran Suicide." The image is overlaid with text that pulls part of the subhead into a quote, reading "Brandon Herrera Mocks Veteran Suicide: '...I often thin of putting a gun in my mouth...so I'm basically an honorary veteran." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Tony Gonzales is unfairly using veteran suicide to tarnish Brandon by taking his words out of context and manipulating voters' emotions. In the full clip, Brandon acknowledges what he is about to say is a joke. He told it in a room full of Veterans, they laughed. Full clip: x.com/daltonsuttonio…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
