X community adds a context note to user's post: An X (formerly Twitter) user posted a short video clip of Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) speaking about the term "groomer." The user summarized her words by posting "'Pedophilia is not a crime, it's an identity' - Rep Katie Porter (D)." "We now have a total of 62 co-sponsors—Democrats & Republicans—for the Kids Online Safety Act. This overwhelming bipartisan support mirrors the powerful calls from young people & parents who want Congress to take action & finally hold Big Tech accountable." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. The quote attributed to Porter is false and an inaccurate summary. Obscured by a clipped video. Porter: 'This allegation of groomer & pedophile [against all LGBTQ], it is alleging […] a person is […] engaged in criminal acts merely because of their identity.' Full exchange: youtu.be/gTo1TAN0Fsk?si…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
