X community adds a context note to Sen. Ted Cruz post: Republican Senator Ted Cruz posted, "Illegal aliens should not be able to vote in federal elections. Period. This should not be controversial." The post was in response to a Daily Caller post linking to a story headlined "EXCLUSIVE: Sen. Katie Britt Introduces Legislation To Prevent Illegal Immigrants From Voting in Federal Elections." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. By law, Only US Citizens can vote in Federal elections. usa.gov/who-can-vote." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will now be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
