X community adds a context note to Team Trump post: Team Trump, the official account for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, posted, "FACT CHECK: President Trump built over 450 MILES of new border wall." The post included an image of a memo from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection titled "Border Wall Status - January 22, 2021" and indicated a total of approximately 458 miles of "New primary wall" and "New secondary wall" had been added both "in place of dilapidated and/or outdated designs" and "in locations where no barriers previously existed." X added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know.” The added context read "For more context, the footprint of the border wall was only expanded 52 miles. 52 miles of new primary wall, & 33 miles of secondary wall were built “where no barrier existed.” 351 miles of new primary wall & 22 miles of secondary wall replaced preexisting structures. cdn.factcheck.org/UploadedFiles/… politifact.com/factchecks/202…” The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will now be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
