X community adds a context note to Stephen Miller's post: Stephen Miller, Senior Advisor to President Trump, posted a response to a Nikki Haley post disparaging Trump's proposed "10% across-the-board tariff." Miller commented "Tariffs are taxes on FOREIGN producers, not American. Tariffs are what built America. Ripping down tariffs are how globalist elites gutted manufacturing towns in South Carolina. And restoring tariffs are how we bring those jobs back." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Tariffs are taxes paid by US businesses into the US Treasury that result is in higher prices for US consumers. taxfoundation.org/blog/who-reall…." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
