X community adds a context note to Tony Gonzalez campaign post: The official campaign account for Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) posted "Tony Gonzales delivers for veterans. Always has. Always will. #TX23." The post included a graphic that read "Tony Gonzales For Congress Delivers for Veterans. $2.2 Billion for veteran suicide prevention programs. Fighting to improve VA healthcare centers. Improving access to VA benefits for rural veterans." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Ernest Anthony 'Tony' Gonzalez II was censured by the Republican Party for voting in favor of red flag laws disproportionately impacting veterans in a negative manner. texastribune.org/2022/06/24/bip…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
