Twitter censors Pets Killed By Pits: The account Pets Killed By Pits tweeted, “Update to fatal mauling of 'Maple'. Seems the pit owners and prosecuting attorney are connected. Ah.. thankfully this family is calling them all out. Fort Smith, AR.” Accompanying the tweet is the link to the news story. (The story is entitled “City prosecutor under fire for refusal to issue search warrants after dogs kill pet calf on Monday.”) Twitter obscured the link with a “Sensitive Content” filter. Twitter includes “violent crimes or accidents,” “adult nudity and sexual behavior,” and “gratuitous gore” under its definition of sensitive content. Users on the desktop version of Twitter must click through a filter to view such tweets, if they do not wish to change their settings to show sensitive content by default. Users on the mobile version of Twitter are simply unable to view the tweets without changing the setting. It is unclear why Twitter applied the label to the account’s tweet. Although the article itself discusses a dog attack, the link preview on Twitter contains no graphic content.
