X community adds a context note to a Peter Sweden post: X user Peter Sweden (Peter Imanuelsen) posted "HUGE NEWS. The car maker Mercedes is doing a U-turn on electric vehicles. Instead, they will now continue to develop petrol and diesel engines for many year." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. This is misleading. Mercedes-Benz has delayed its electrification goal by five years. The company now expects sales of electrified vehicles, including hybrids, to account for up to 50% of the total by 2030 - five years later than its forecast from 2021." The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later. The note was later removed after Sweden posted a screenshot of it, saying "Community notes is wrong again. My post is not misleading at all. Mercedes is indeed doing a U-turn and will continue to develop fossil fuel engines for many more years than what they said previously."
