NBC News

X community adds a context note to NBC News's post: NBC News posted "Elon Musk drew a swift rebuke from two of the nation’s best known civil rights organizations after he criticized efforts by United Airlines and Boeing to hire nonwhite pilots and factory workers." The post included a link to an NBC article about the issue titled "Elon Musk criticized by civil rights groups over claim that diversity efforts make flying less safe. In several posts on X, Musk claimed without evidence that diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives put airline customers in danger." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Misleading headline. This is what Elon actually said: 'Merit should be the only reason for hiring, especially for jobs where your family's lives are at stake.'" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later. The note was later removed from the post.
