Airbnb bans Michelle Malkin and her husband from use of its platform: Outspoke pundit Michelle Malkin received a note from an Airbnb representative after she used the service to book accommodations during a trip to speak at the 2021 American Renaissance Conference, letting her know that her account was being permanently banned. Malkin reported on the situation, explaining that the group who hosted the conference had been identified by two heavily biased activist organizations, the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League, as a "hate group." However, she indicated that she went to the "peaceful conference" and "lambasted both Swamp Democrats and establishment Republicans" in a speech she titled "Race, Immigration, and Con. Inc: How I Came to See the Light." Malkin explained that while Airbnb did not inquire as to the contents of her speech, they informed her that "it has come to our attention that you were a keynote speaker for the 2021 American Renaissance Conference earlier this month in Tennessee." The representative, claiming to be a part of the Airbnb "Trust team," went on to say that its policies "prohibit people who are members of or actively associate with known hate groups," and that because of her "promotion and participation in a known white nationalist and white supremacist conference," the would "remove your account from Airbnb," "consistent with action we've taken to ban people associated with this conference in past years." Additionally, because the platform noted that she used her husband's account to book her accommodations on a regular basis, they additionally banned his account despite the fact that he had nothing to do with the conference and is not a public figure or activist. Malkin explained that she is seeking legal advice.
