Facebook fact-checker targets video saying World Economic Forum has a "stated goal" for people to own nothing by 2030: Facebook targeted a video by motivational speaker Mark Moss posted Feb. 23 which said that the World Economic Forum's "stated goal" by 2030 was, "You'll own nothing and be happy." The video appears to be in reference to a Nov. 18, 2016 video by WEF which was captioned: "You'll own nothing, and you'll be happy. This is how our world could change by 2030." The WEF tweeted out a statement in December, 2016 by Member of the Danish Parliament Ida Auken, in which she was quoted saying: "Welcome to 2030. I own nothing, have no privacy, and life has never been better." Facebook tagged Moss's video as "false information" and claimed "independent fact-checkers say this information has no basis in fact." The interstitial linked out to a Reuters fact-check which claimed the video was "repeating misinformation" about the WEF. Reuters is a member of the George Soros-funded International Fact-Checking Network, a project by the liberal Poynter Institute. The IFCN received $1 million in 2020 from Facebook. The platform announced a partnership with independent third-party fact-checkers that were members of IFCN, as well as IFCN itself. According to Facebook, users fail to click through fact-check interstitials 95% of the time.
