X community adds a context note to Nikole Hannah-Jones post: Political journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, who goes by the X username "Ida Bae Wells," posted a response to a screenshot of the top of a story from The Atlantic in which the writer explains how he was chastised by an HR rep during his orientation at The New York Times for saying that his favorite sandwich was a Chick-Fil-A sandwich. According to the excerpt, the HR rep said "We don't do that here. They hate gay people." After this the other people in the room "started snapping their fingers in acclamation." Hannah-Jones responded to this by saying "Never happened." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. This Atlantic has confirmed that they successfully verified this incident's occurrence, and three people have stepped forward to say that Adam Rubenstein told them the story five years ago, exactly as it was written in the Atlantic. twitter.com/jessesingal/st… twitter.com/jessesingal/st…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
