X (Twitter) Community Notes fact-checks GOP governor: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott posted on X April 30, “I’ve announced a $50K reward for info on the criminal who killed 5 illegal immigrants Friday. Also directed #OperationLoneStar to be on the lookout.” He added, “I continue working with state & local officials to ensure all available resources are deployed to respond.” X Community Notes added a context label that said, “At least one of the dead was a legal resident of the US[.] The victims were: Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25; Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31; Jonathan Casarez, 18; and Daniel Enrique Laso, 9.” The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will now be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
