Facebook fact-checked a user's post pointing out the unprecedented attitude many have toward breakthrough COVID-19 cases: The user posted a graphic that read "For the first time ever, a medicine's ineffectiveness is being blamed on those who haven't taken it." Facebook gave the graphic a recycled Lead Stories fact check designed to debunk a claim the user did not make. Lead Stories claimed that "A vaccinated Person Is NOT Wrong To Think An Unvaccinated Person Is a Threat To Their Health." The fact-checker emphasized that no vaccine is always 100% effective. The Lead Stories article went on to cite that the COVID-19 vaccines available in the US are allegedly "82% effective against symptomatic COVID-19 after the first shot and 94% effective after the second dose." However, the fact-checker does not take into account that the graphic the user actually posted merely points out that it is not the fault of the unvaccinated that the COVID-19 vaccines are not 100% effective, as no vaccine is so effective according to both Lead Stories and the CDC.
