Facebook page for Garland, TX NAACP removed from platform ahead of massive MLK weekend celebration: The Garland, Texas chapter of the NAACP had their Facebook page deleted just days before their annual MLK Day celebration. Originally, the group had planned on broadcasting the event via Facebook, but after being removed were forced to broadcast it on their YouTube channel instead. “They gave us no explanation,” said NAACP organizer Gwendolyn Daniels, according to The Dallas Morning News. “Of all times, right before our big virtual program this awful thing happened to us,” said Daniels. “I am going to personally research this to determine how many other NAACP units were affected by Facebook following the national events over the past week.” Daniel's said the page's deletion appeared to coincide with the massive social media crackdown following last week's siege on the U.S. Capitol.
