Facebook recently fact-checked a Freedom In America post from over two years ago: In October of 2018, Freedom in America shared a picture of Cesar Sayoc, who was responsible for the 2018 mail bombing attempts. Sayoc was pictured next to an unknown person who many conservatives alleged to be a "Democrat donor/supporter," with the insinuation that Sayoc was a registered Democrat. According to Check Your Fact, the insinuation is false and Sayoc is a registered Republican. However, Facebook's fact checker, Politifact, labeled the statement "mostly false," yet failed to dispute the known falsehood. Instead, Politifact speculated as to who they thought the unknown person might be until they eventually admitted that his identity was unknown. Facebook has effectively scrubbed the once viral post from its platform, but out of the three remaining postings of the photo found, Freedom In America's post is the only one Facebook flagged for a fact check. Apparently when it comes to weak Facebook fact corrections, it is better two years late than never, even if almost nobody will see it.
