X community adds a context note to user's post: An X (formerly Twitter) user posted a response to a post of someone responding to a question posted on the subreddit r/asktransgender wondering if "trans girl periods sync up." The response explained that "[y]ou're not getting a 'period'. Honestly this reads as a super creepy and misogynistic delusion. Stop reducing and appropriating the struggles that cis women actually face." A user responded to this comment, saying "Bleeding and shedding your uterine lining is a SYMPTOM of your period, not the cause. Your period is caused by your HORMONE levels, and the physiological effects they have on your body. Trans women hormone levels fluctuate on HRT just like cis women. We do in fact get periods." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Periods (which begin on day 1 of the menstrual cycle) are the shedding of the uterine lining. The menstrual cycle is the monthly series of changes the body goes through to *prepare for pregnancy,* which is something only possible for females. mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifest…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
