X community adds a context note to user's post: A popular X (formerly Twitter) account known as Dr. Anastasia Maria Loupis posted "Keep BOYCOTTING child killers!" The post included a screenshot of a headline that read "McDonald's Loses $7 Billion in Boycott Over Israel Support. McDonald's is one of many Western franchises that is being targeted by a boycott campaign over their support for the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF)." The X community added a note to the post that read: "Readers added context they thought people might want to know. Context: this post would have you believe McDonald’s lost 7 billion dollars, it is only a fluctuation in stock price. The stock on Oct 6th was $248 per share, as of March 18th, it’s trading at $279.9, a more than 12% gain of approx 23 billion. ycharts.com/companies/MCD/… 9% revenue growth last quarter corporate.mcdonalds.com/content/dam/si…" The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted that notices will be pushed to users who previously engaged with a post when a Community Note is added to it later.
