Declaration of Memes

X community adds a context note to Declaration of Memes post:  Meme account Declaration of Memes posted a meme showing Plymouth Rock with text overlay reading "1620: Plymouth Rock at Sea Level. 1920: Plymouth Rock still at Sea Level. 2023: Plymouth Rock remains at Sea Level." The account added the following text to the post: "But climate change is going to kill us all!" X added a label to the post that read "Readers added context they thought people might want to know." The added context read, "The rock has been broken, split, and relocated multiple times over years, it was moved to its present location underneath a granite portico built in 1921. The rock has not been in the exact same spot as it was 402 years ago as the post is suggesting. apnews.com/article/fact-c…

The label is part of X’s Community Notes system. X users are able to sign up as contributors to add context to posts. X owner Elon Musk recently shared that any post with a Community Note added to it will be demonetized. The Community Notes account on X also posted to explain that notices will now be pushed to users that previously engaged with a post about any Community Notes added to it after the engagement.
